⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5
If you've read any of my other recent book reviews, you'll already know how I start them all off - by saying that they all start off with the full whack of stars and that I'm always hopeful that they'll all still be glued firmly in place by the time I close the back cover.
It's waaaay past my bedtime but I'm not even remotely tired, so I'm really hoping this book will see me through a rough night.
Let's get going with the reading and reviewing shall we?
The first chapter was good, but there are already too many names to remember! lol
Oh dear. there's been a couple of brands dropped, potentially without approval, so the first star is coming off at only 5%.
My eyes are struggling so I'm gonna head on up to beddy-byes to try and get a few hours of sleep... I might or might not be back down again, but I've enjoyed the first couple of chapters, I'm just a bit disappointed that I didn't even make it to double figures before the first star came off.
I'm back again now for another few hours of reading and adding to this review, so let's get started.
I've read two chapters and I'm back into the reading headspace that I get into when I'm enjoying what I'm reading.
Up to chapter 6 now and one of the character's is a fellow shortie like me, which is very rare to read in books that I've found so far, so it'll be interesting to see how the author handles it!
Up to chapter 14 now and it's almost my bedtime again, so I'm gonna leave it there for another day and I'll hopefully be able to read a bit more tomorrow. It's a good book so far though.
Chapter 15 was pretty good and I've got a bit more of an idea about what happened to two of the character's partners now... is the relationship between Zoe and Alex a gorgeous slow-burner? Do they feel the same way about each other?
Up to chapter 19 now and the last three chapters have got my heart thumping with worry then fluttering with relief lol
Chapters 19 and 20 were worrisome... I hope Zoe and Alex can have an honest heart-to-heart about what happened!
Chapter 21 has me cautiously hopeful again...
Chapter 22 must have broken poor Zoe's heart!
I've got 31% to go, so maybe another chapter or two before bed then hopefully finish it off tomorrow morning before my groceries arrive? I hope I'm not left in floods of tears - that would be soooo embarrassing, especially because I've got a delivery due too lol
It feels like the author is starting to tie up storylines now, which is sensible so that it's not all rushed. I'm now at chapter 24 and 72% so I'll leave that for tomorrow and hope I don't answer the door to my delivery or groceries with swollen red eyes! lol
Chapter 24 was pretty emotional, but the author has tied up another thread and they did it wonderfully too! Gonna stop reading until after lunch so that I'm not blubbing when my carer gets here lol
I'm up to chapter 28 now and the author has smoothed out one thing and thrown another two spanners into the works... what'll happen in the last 14% I wonder? I'm gonna leave it there for tonight and I will hopefully finish the book off while my virus scan is doing its thing tomorrow morning.
Chapter 29 had me worried! There's only 9% to go so it'll be OK for Billie and Ritchie too, won't it?!
What a great end to a fantastic book... I'm not sure the secret will stay secret for much longer though lol
