Book Review: "One More Day of Us" by Shari Low

If you've read any of my other recent book reviews, you'll already know that every book I read and review starts off with the full heart-load of 5 stars and I'm always hopeful that they will all still be firmly in place by the time I close the back cover.  You'll also know that I'm not shy to remove stars as I feel necessary but I always give my reasons for doing so within the review - they don't just disappear for no reason.

Let's get going shall we?

The characters at the start of the book was a bit weird... I was expecting to get straight into the story and get to know the characters as the book progressed so I read it like the start of the story rather than admin that the author did.  When I realised it was a list of characters I had to rapidly get into a different headspace which was confusing too.  The first star is wobbly already and I haven't even started the first chapter yet!!

Oh dear, the first star is coming off at only 3% because of potential trademark issues, which is a big thing for me... I'm really hoping that there will be a magic sentence at the back saying that the author has gained permission to use the product names in her book!

The first chapter was OK but certainly not, in my opinion, worthy of a best-selling author... I seriously hope the story picks up or I'm taking off another star due to boredom.

I've already noticed an error that should have been picked up waaaay before the book was published... chapter 2 is dated "June 2025" which I'm writing this in the middle of and it was published on 2nd May 2025 so now the author is writing a futuristic novel... if the third chapter is even further into the future then the second star is coming off... how on earth did this author become a best-seller?!

Start of chapter 3 and 8% and we're still in the future, so the second star is coming off after less than 10%.

I'm getting confused now... the start of chapter 4 is still June 2025 but it reads like it's moved on weeks, if not months in the last chapter so why is chapter 4 still the same month??  The third star is wobbly at 11% and I really can't see how this author is a best-seller when this book is so dull - there's no excitement or stress or any emotion at all, they are just words on a page!

Another two characters to try and remember... I've already forgotten the three or four I was introduced to in the first chapter and it feels like there's at least one new character in every chapter, which is waaay too many for my liking, so the third star is coming off at 12% unfortunately.  We're already down to two stars at 12% - will I make it to 15% before I knock off the final star and officially give up on the book??

Chapter 5 is August 1990 and I'm seriously confused now. I get that memories go back to the past but this book is jumping around all over the shop with characters and dates which is really making me confused so I'm knocking the final star off and giving up at only 16% unfortunately.
