Third update to today's to-do list
Today's (27th December 2025) lunch photo
I realised about an hour ago that the cream needs to be used up within 4 days of opening, so my lunch (and potentially tea) today is a mug of me-friendly creamy drinking chocolate 'cos it's been open for several days already!
Here's today's lunch photo:

Mornin' all
Well, I've been awake since 2.47am, pulled the water heating switch on in the bathroom at 3am, was downstairs and taking my blood pressure by 3.15am, had my breakfast of a glass of water to take my morning pills by 3.30am and ran the daily virus scan, which was thankfully clear.
Time to get today's to-do list together then I'll have my bath to try and relax a bit.

It's been a long, stressful, exhausting, emotional day today, so I'm taking myself on up to bed bang on time tonight.
I'll see you all in the morning when I've gotta remember to pull the water heating switch on for my weekly bath and I definitely deserve it this week.

Book Review: "One Christmas Eve" by Shari Low
"One Christmas Eve" by Shari Low
Kindle Unlimited Audiobook Hardcover Paperback
⭐ out of 5
If you've read any of my other recent book reviews, you'll already know that I start them all off in the same way, which is by saying that every book I read and review starts off with the full sleigh-load of 5 stars and I'm always hopeful that they will all still be stuck firmly in place by the time I close the back cover. You'll also know that I'm not shy about removing stars if I feel it appropriate, but I always give my reasons for doing so within the review - stars don't just vanish into thin air!
I'm starting this book at lunchtime on Boxing Day, let's see how long it takes me to finish it off.
Oh dear. I'm only on the first page and the first star is already wobbly because of the use of a potentially trademarked site without permission... not a good start, Shari!
And the first sentence uses a famous singer potentially without permission, so one more wobble and I'll be taking the first star off.
And the first star is gone at the last paragraph on the second page. I'm really hoping it'll pick up from here, but I'm already bored silly and I've only read 2 pages!
I've lost count of the pages I've read but I'm sitting here bored out of my tree so the second star is coming off in the first chapter... not looking good that I'll finish this book, unfortunately!
Less than 2 pages later and I'm skipping ahead... the author is supposed to be a bestseller for flips sake - I'm glad I got this on Kindle Unlimited so that I didn't have to shell out perfectly good money on boring my brains out! Third star coming off in the first chapter - 3 down, 1 to go before it becomes another DNF.
Skipped ahead up to chapter 4 now... will the author have got into her groove by now??
The first paragraph has got the names of 3 posh clothes shops and I can pretty much guarantee that they won't have given the author permission to use their brand names in this book, so after reading less than 10 pages, the fourth and final star comes off and this is another DNF unfortunately.

Mornin' all
I've woken up today, regretting yesterday's laps. I'm sore, stiff, tired and achey.
So far this morning I've plastered my toe after pulling off the dry skin too deeply, got washed and dressed then popped my 9 morning pills with my breakfast and run the daily virus scan.
Time to get today's to-do list together, then put my breakfast photo up, do my first set of exercises of the day then change the battery in my scales I reckon.

In the New Year I've gotta remember to...
...phone my GP to see if they will accept scanned copies of my Advance Decision and Advance Statement (and if so, how do I get it to them) or does it have to be on paper which seems a waste, but I want to do things properly so if that's the only way then so be it.
Can someone remind me please?
Book Review: "Not in the Best of Health" by Charles Godden
⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5
I start all my book reviews in the same way - by saying that each book I read and review starts off with the full wardful of 5 stars and that I'm forever hopeful that they'll all still be firmly in place by the time I close the back cover. I'm not shy about removing stars but I always give my reasons for doing so within the review, they don't just disappear.
I love and appreciate our NHS and all the staff, so I'm hoping this book will give me a glimpse into the inner workings of the wards by a doctor who works with children. I hope there aren't too many heartbreaking chapters!
This is the longest book I've read for a while so it'll really test my memory each time I pick it up... I can't wait to get started on it!
Wowsers! The first chapter really could've gone either way and no spoilers, but I'm feeling relieved about the result.
Noooooooo!! I'm only on the first page of chapter 2 and I'm already having to take a star off for trademark infringement in fairness to other books I've read! I'm desperately hoping that this will be the only star that I remove though!
Chapter 3 was pretty gross and this review is getting a bit long already so, like with most other books, only the significant things from now on.
Oooh! There's been a fleeting mention of a treatment I had as a child... I wonder if it'll be talked about any more?
Up to chapter 8 now and I'm gonna stop reading there for the day... this is an incredible book so far!
Just finished chapter 9 and I'm really hoping to mostly avoid pigbel for the rest of this book!
Blimey! Two years covered in a handful of chapters! That's rapid by anyone's standards!
There have been a few mentions of singers and their songs so far and I'm not sure how that is covered under Trademark laws, but I've already taken off a star for potential Trademark infringement, so we're still at 4 stars now.
I've reached the "Coffee Break" now so I'm heading on up to beddy-byes as this seems like a suitable place to stop reading for the day.
It's taking me longer than I thought to read this book but, while the chapters aren't self-contained, it's written in such a way that I can work out, pretty quickly, what has already happened and what is currently happening which I'm so grateful to the author for.
Up to chapter 16 and I'm gonna leave it there for today and have an early night I reckon. Hopefully be able to read a bit more tomorrow and Sunday.
I'm donating my body to medical science too (and yes, my family know, I've filled in the form, been accepted and it's in my medical records) and I think it would be a interesting send off to have my bits muddled up with a male lol
It's been a hectic few days since I last picked up this book, so it'll be interesting to see how much or how little I remember of it!
Chapter 18 was pretty much self-contained so thankfully didn't need to remember much. They were braver than I would be in the same situation though!
What a mistake to make in chapter 19! I hope he improves from here! lol
Up to part 2 now, which seems to be a good place to stop reading for the day. The chapters seem to be semi-self-contained but if they aren't then it's easy for me to pick up what has happened before, which I'm grateful for.
Up to chapter 22 now and I'm relieved that the previous chapter wasn't too gory, so soon after having my lunch lol
Chapter 24 had my heart rate through the roof, but it ended the way it should, so that was a relief.
Up to chapter 26 now and time for my lunch... I hope this afternoon's chapters aren't too gory!!
Finishing the day on chapter 29. At lunchtime I was just over half way through the book, so I should hopefully be finished with this book before the end of the year. Chapter 28 left me feeling relieved for that little boy so it feels like a good place to stop reading for the day.
Was the author being sensible or stupid in chapter 29?
I have to disagree with the author about TENS machines. Unless he was using a very early and/or cheap machine and/or putting it ON his pain rather than either side of it, TENS machines don't hurt at all IME, they just provide almost instant relief as long as you're not epileptic and/or have a pacemaker fitted!
It's amazing what can happen when doctors actually listen to their patient as opposed to dismissing them!
159 pages left to read... will I get this book finished and reviewed before bedtime on Christmas Night I wonder??
I've read 53 pages since my last addition to this review and my eyes are feeling heavy now, so I'm finished reading for the day at chapter 35 and 106 pages left to read. It's a looong book so I'm especially grateful for the pretty much self-contained chapters.
There have been lots of non-numeric characters between the £ and the bn throughout this book and I get that the author is trying desperately not to date their book, but if he can't say "roughly £3bn in 2023" (or whatever) instead of these weird characters, then why write it at all?
Up to chapter 39 now and I'm gonna aim to read and review one more chapter before I have my Christmas Day lunch of mince pies for the last time in this festive season.
Chapter 40 and bang on noon, it's time for lunch and the final 52 pages this afternoon. I'm loving this book and it's been a real eye-opener into especially paediatric hospital stuff... a definite must-read for any medical nosey-parkers like me!
Up to chapter 42 and 36 pages left to read... it's looking good that I'll get this review finished and up before bedtime tonight.
Just finished the book and I've really enjoyed it. Definitely one of my longer reads, but the pretty-much self-contained chapters definitely helped.
Cor lummy, I'm...
...stuffed now!
I had 5 packs of peanuts for breakfast.
Part 1 of C's Christmas gift for a mid-morning snack and...
...6 iced mince pies and a 500ml glass of water for lunch.
It's officially back to toast and juice for breakfast and non-sugary, non-festive things starting tomorrow - my blood sugar will thank me lol

Today's (25th December 2025) lunch photo
I timed the mince pie consumption fantastically well this year because my lunch today is the final box of 6 iced mince pies and a 500ml glass of water.
Starting tomorrow it'll be back to non-seasonal foods of things like onion rings and vegetarian sausage rolls and things like that.
Here's today's final festive lunch photo:
I'm soooooo...
...proud of myself!!
This is gonna sound tiny to most/all of you, but it's a huuuuuuuge achievement for me!
I've just walked to the postbox, posted a letter, and come home!
No big deal right?
Wrong!
I faced my least confident walking obstacle 6 times totally alone this morning and while I'm sooo far from confident doing it, I still managed it totally alone and with nobody knowing that I was even going to attempt it!
I think that calls for a celebratory J2O!!

Mornin' all
Merry Christmas to those readers who celebrate it!
So far this morning I've been for an emergency wee, taken my Visible reading, been for another wee, put my glasses on and brought my bumbag downstairs, went for a third wee, took my blood pressure (it was in the normal range at last!!), been for another wee, took my morning pills, been for another wee, started up my laptop, put both FitBits and my Visible on to charge up, started the virus scan (it found an advanced issue), got washed and dressed and here we are!
I'm not gonna have anything solid for breakfast - maybe just a honey drink or something to try and knock my dratted cold on the head - but it's the last box of mince pies for lunch and I'll hopefully remember to do my first set of laps of the week when my FitBits and Visible have finished charging up then hopefully finish reading the book today.
This first blog post of the day is getting a bit long, so I'm gonna shut up, publish it and get today's to-do list together now I reckon.

Nite nite orl
It's been a long ole day today but I've managed to read 6 chapters and now my eyeballs are telling me it's time for bed, so I've popped my pills and that's where I'm off to now.
Might try and do a few festive laps tomorrow 'cos my calorie count has been through the roof so far this week and I'm having mince pies for my lunch tomorrow so it'll be through the roof again then too. I don't want my legs to sieze up so a few festive laps should hopefully see me on the straight and narrow.
I've gotta remember to charge up both FitBits tomorrow too 'cos they are running low on juice.
I'll see you all in the morning.

Today's (24th December 2025) lunch photos
I decided to give my belly a break from all the sweetness today and ordered in a vegan festive lattice, 2 vegan sausage rolls, 2 pots of apple and strawberries and my second caffeine fix of the week with a 500ml bottle of cherry Coke. It went down a storm and my body is thanking me but I'll be burping all afternoon lol
Here's today's festive lunch photos:

I had a nice surprise this morning...
...my final carers invoice came through the door after I went to bed yesterday and I've just opened it.
My usual monthly invoices were for around £570 but this last invoice is for...
...drum roll please...
...£207!!
I was expecting it to be another £570 but it's only for 1.5 weeks so that was a lovely surprise to come downstairs to this morning and means that I shouldn't be getting any more invoices after this one has been paid, so I can save the best part of £750 a month for finding and financing a private carer who actually *does* something now!

Mornin' all
Well, I woke up for good at 2.45am and couldn't get back to sleep so I stayed curled up and comfy until my alarm went off at 3.30am, then took my Visible reading, went for an emergency wee, put my glasses on, came downstairs, went for another emergency wee, took my blood pressure which was back down to my normal, went for another wee, took my morning pills and started the weekly virus scan.
Gonna get today's to-do list together then get washed and dressed now methinks.

Nite nite orl
I know this is early even for me, but I had an awful night trying to get used to half the duvet width and woke up several times to put it back onto the bed so I'm absolutely cream-crackered now.
I've gotta remember that it's my weekly virus scan and backups tomorrow so can't open my emails until they are all done and dusted.
I've popped my pills and been for an urgent wee after taking my last Visible reading of the day, so I'm gonna shut down and crawl up to bed now.
I'll see you in the morning.
