Book Review: 'How to Market Your Book on Amazon' by Sam Kerns

Kindle     Audiobook     Paperback

⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars

If you've read any of my other recent book reviews, you'll know that I start them all off in the same way - by saying that every book I read and review starts off with the full library of stars and I'm always hopeful that they will all be stamped firmly in place by the time I close the back cover.  The usual reason for me knocking off a star from an otherwise 5 star book is copyright/trademark infringement.  There's been one book so far with a magic little sentence that rapidly got the fifth star back in place... it's only happened once so far but I'm more than happy to do it whenever that magic sentence is there.

I got this authors other book about publishing on KDP and some of the things were out of date by the time it came to me putting it into action and I've gotta remember that this book was published 5 years ago, so it may not be possible to follow every step in this book either.

Let's get going with the reading and reviewing shall we?

Ah-ha!  I've already spotted a problem with my book cover as described on page 26 - I've used an orange instead of navy cover for my memoir!

Oh dear, the first star is wobbly at 22% after naming two search engines and I'm not sure if they are trademarked or not, so the star stays, just not as firmly as the others.

Something else for me to check is that I haven't used quotation marks around my keywords and that I haven't used the same keyword more than once... this book is already as useful as this author's first one for me!

I'm up to chapter 6 at 71% and haven't found anything else to whine about so far, which is good going!  Apparently this is the final chapter so will it still be a wobbly 5 stars by the time I close the back cover?

It might just be me remembering wrongly, but the author seems to have got a bit lazy on pages 200 to 202 (and page 201 seems to have disappeared completely) and he's just copied and pasted the advice he gave on pages 193 to 195 so the first star is coming off at 78%.

The last 3-5% of the book is the authors back catalogue.

Overall a pretty decent book that's given me a couple of things to think about.
