⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5
All my book reviews from the last few years have started off in the same way - by saying that each book starts off with the full shelf-full of 5 stars and I'm always hopeful that they'll all still be firmly in place by the time I close the back cover. I'm not shy about removing stars but I always give my reasons for doing so within the review.
Let's get going with the review shall we?
I know the basics of copyright and trademark infringement and it's the usual reason that an otherwise 5 star book breaks my heart and becomes 4 stars, but what are the rules for TV programmes? Is that a trademark thing or is it allowed to be used without permission from the makers of the programme? The fifth star is staying on for the time being, but it's already wobbly at 3% unfortunately.
I've just finished the first chapter and I think I've read at least one of this author's books before and this one is in the same style. I think I remember feeling like my heart was being hugged pretty quickly in the previous book and it's already starting to feel the same with this book too so I can't wait to really get into it without interruptions for as long as it takes to read it.
There's another TV show/film mentioned at 4% so the wobbly star is even more wobbly... I hope it holds on until the end of the book!
And another TV programme at 5% so off the first star comes, unfortunately.
Up to chapter 3 and 7% now and another TV programme has been mentioned, but I've already broken my heart over that, so I'll try not to mention it again.
I'm classing newspapers in the same way as TV programmes so that mention of a newspaper isn't making the second star wobbly, fortunately.
Chapter 3 was good and I'm gonna stop commenting on every chapter now otherwise this review is gonna be a book in itself! Only big things from now on!
Up to chapter 7 now and things are hotting up! Gonna read one last chapter then head to bed for an early night methinks.
What a great way to end this afternoon's reading. even though I did poke myself in the eye early on in the chapter again lol Chapter 8 tomorrow.
That's chapter 7 read and it seems like things are starting to heat up a bit already!
Up to chapter 11 now and my heart is still being gently hugged.
Chapter 14 was how I felt about my in-laws' dog - I've never liked big dogs in case they overpowered me 'cos I'm short, weak and wobbly, but Rodney was in Heaven each time we went over there and I ever so gradually started to realise that maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't be knocked flying off my feet and into the path of an articulated lorry going a touch fast and changing the radio station as I was dragged into its path - silly huh? That chapter seemed to have somehow looked deeply into my heart and put my feelings into words that I never had.
Chapter 15 was ripped out of my past and my heart with Rodney too... how on earth did the author capture it so well and so quickly?!
There have been a product mentions but I'm not sure if they are trademarks or safe to use, so the second star, like the first one, is wobbly but clinging on right now.
Up to page 22 now and things are getting a little more relaxed between the two main characters... is the ice almost completely thawed now or are there a few little icicles still clinging on for dear life?
The male main character has just opened up more about his family life and it's been quite an eye-opener - I can see now why us mere mortals don't stand even a tiny chance of a relationship with the aristocracy, no matter how much we may want it... the vast majority of us just don't come from the right pool to even meet them let alone have a relationship with any of them!
Oh Lily! Lily! What have you done?!
Wow! What an ending! I'm sniffing back happy tears now, as opposed to the disappointed ones a few pages ago. This is a definite must-read for everyone who wants or needs their heart to be hugged.
