One of the roofers has just come in to collect his charging thing and in the 2 and a bit hours that they've been up there, "we've already found some big, big holes [in the felting??] up there!" so it sounds like I arranged this repair at just the right time and that getting the roofing replaced rather than sealed was the best decision in the long run. Yes, it's expensive, but so so worth it by the sounds of things.
The other roofer that was in the running was just going to seal the tiles, reseat the ridge tiles and fix the chimney and that was it for £4k, but these guys are giving me a whole new front of the roof as well as replacing the felting with all the holes in it and reseating the ridge tiles as well as repairing the chimney for £3.6k so it's much better value and it sounds like it'll last a lot longer too if they are already finding unexpected holes that the other guys (with just the sealing) never would have.
I'm liking these guys more and more!
