⭐ out of 5
If you've read any other recent book reviews, you'll already know that I start them all off in the same way - by saying that every book I read and review starts off with the full 5 stars but I'm not shy about removing stars.
I wrote my first ever grown-up (as opposed to adult) manuscript for NaNo and it is a memoir of my main disability. It's written now and I'm faced with another first - editing a grown-up memoir. I'm going to edit it in January and haven't got a clue where to start, so I'm hoping this book will put me onto the right path.
Let's get reading and reviewing shall we?
I'm on page 6 and I've been able to narrow my memoir down even farther already... on page one it was simply a medical memoir but now it's a *misery* medical memoir and it's already got me thinking about other sections of bookshelves it could be placed on!
I'm about half way through the book and now seems to be a good time to remove 2 stars - the first for the use of trademarks, potentially without permission and the second because it's just so incredibly dull. I got this book in the hopes and even expectations of actually learning how to whip my already written memoir into shape, but other than that paragraph or so right at the start of the book where I learnt how to narrow down the bookshelf for my memoir, pretty much every page has been about the author, their life and/or their other books. I had high hopes for this book but I've been left sorely disappointed so far.
I'm up to page 58 and the author is talking about films and their types and different personalities so the third star is coming off and the author has just over 100 pages left to pull off an impossible feat based on the last 58 pages.
Page 62 and I've officially given up hope. The author is still talking about themselves and hasn't even started to encourage me to put pen to paper, let alone edit the book so I've officially given up now. Watching paint dry is more useful than this book.
