Aaaaaand...

...relax.

I've just summoned up the courage to talk to someone at Steve's bank about getting the statements for the last year of his life.

The man I spoke to was brilliant and it was sorted within 3 minutes.  The statements will be with me between 5-7 working days, so hopefully by next weekend I'll be able to go through them all and see just how many take-aways Steve had and how much he spent on them as well as what he spent the many thousands of pounds I gave him to apparently help him to pay his bills was actually spent on.

I know that one of the bills (the electricity) that I paid through him each month was already significantly less than what I was paying him for it, but I want to see what else he lied about too.  I know that the night before he fell over in the bathroom he spent over £100 on 3 take-aways so it's no wonder that he was so tired and sleepy during each day with having to stay awake to order each take away, answer the door, eat and hide the containers from me before deciding that he was still hungry and repeating it again!

I was so proud of him for reducing his portion sizes with the meals I made for him... but I didn't know anything about his multiple nightly take-aways every night!  It's no wonder that he had a pre-paid delivery subscription with Just Eat really!

I think I've earnt a chocolatey reward now and it's another thing that I can cross off my to-do list at last!

Today's (21st May 2026) lunch photo

Another hour late with my lunch photo today lol

Today's lunch was approx 100g of fresh, raw, baby leaf spinach, 5 spring onions and 2 vegan cheeses with approx 15g of vegan mayo and washed down with a 330ml can of a Sparkling Mango pop.

Here's today's lunch photo:

Part of...

Today's (21st May 2026) breakfast photos

Both of today's breakfasts were mostly the same as yesterday's, except that I had a banana with the cherry juice for my second breakfast and the same 500ml glass of water to take my 12 morning pills with for my first breakfast.

Here are both of today's breakfast photos:

Mornin' all

Well, today has started off with a Visible score of 4 again, then I rushed to the bathroom to discover that I'm constipated this morning, then I put my glasses on and came downstairs, took my blood pressure, popped my 12 morning pills, had my 2 breakfasts (I had a banana this morning instead of just juice), did the washing up, ran the daily virus scan and I'm now writing this blog post, obviously lol

Gotta remember to charge up my Visible this afternoon and I'm hoping that my prescription will turn up at a sensible time this morning.

The virus scan was clear, so I'm gonna go and do my first set of exercises of the day then get my breakfast photos and my to-do list together and up on here.

Nite nite orl

It's been another long, exhausting day today and I'm totally knackered so I'm heading off to beddy-byes now.

I need to remember to charge up my Visible tomorrow so that it doesn't totally run out of juice on me.

I'll see you all in the morning.

Today's (20th May 2026) tea photo

I'm about an hour late getting this photo up, but I had a craving for something crunchy and unhealthy, so decided on a sharing packet of me-friendly bacon flavour rashers crisps and a 500ml glass of water.

Here's today's tea photo:

Book Review: "Crash Into Me" by Robinne Lee

⭐ out of 5

I was approved by the publisher to read this book before it was published and, as always, it'll be a brutally  honest review of all the highs and, hopefully very few, lows as I read and feel them.  It's one of the well-known, big publishers that I've read and reviewed for before, so they obviously know what to expect and have prepared the author for my brutal honesty!

If you've read any of my other more recent book reviews, you'll already know that I start each one off in the same way, by saying that each book I read and review starts off with the full five stars and I'm always hopeful that they will all still be stuck firmly in place by the time I close the back cover.

It's almost my bedtime, so I'll start reading tomorrow morning, but I can't wait to get started.

The publisher has taken notice of my previous comments either within reviews or past comments to them and has put in a first sentence saying that the ARC I've got is a proof copy, not a final one, so I won't mark the book down on things like missed pages or SPaG mistakes... if the magic sentence is included too, that could be a second star saved and I haven't even got past the first paragraph yet lol

My first impression of the book from the first two paragraphs is that it seems to be very old language and scene-setting for 2015 - more like the 1800s rather than the 2010's!  Maybe the author likes, reads and appreciates classic literature, but it's very out of place in a 2015 setting!  The author is setting the scene into 2015 but the word choices are very out of place for only a decade ago.  If it was a classic then I would understand it, but it's making the book very hard to understand already unfortunately.  I'm gonna give it another little while to see if the author changes the feel of the language used, but the star is already wobbly unfortunately.

I'm getting confused about the gender of the "I" in this first chapter... I thought they were female at first, then male and now back to female again - I get that the author is trying to set the scene, but they aren't doing a very good job of it so far, unfortunately. I'm gonna give the author one last chance before I remove the first star, but it's not looking like this is gonna be a five star book already, unfortunately.

That first sentence of the book has saved the star 'cos I'm not sure what "Guhd" is supposed to sound like!  The author seems to be attempting to spell the accent and it is seriously affecting my enjoyment of the book already unfortunately.

And now we've got another character, so that's four characters already in the first chapter and I'm already getting confused between them all, so off comes the first star.

And now there's another one at the end of the first chapter so I'm mightily confused about who is who and how they know or don't know each other now!  If the characters had all been spread out throughout the entire book, then it might have been a good read, but I'm already seriously confused about who is who and what their relationship and need to be in the book so early is, so the second star is already wobbly unfortunately.

Oh dear.  The second page has got the brand name of an internationally famous audio technology company so I'm really hoping that magical sentence is at the end of the book otherwise I won't be able to re-attach the second wobbly star!

The second chapter was relatively short but the years are all over the shop already which is confusing me even more and I don't believe that a reader should have to make notes while they're reading a fiction novel but it's already starting to feel like I have to, so the second star is even wobblier now unfortunately.

And there's another brand name of a media company in the third chapter, so the second star is coming off after less than three chapters unfortunately.  Will this already be another DNF?

Up to chapter four now and this book isn't as good as I was hoping for, unfortunately.  Not the worst by any means, but far from what I was hoping for too.

The end of chapter four came out of nowhere and was a totally shocking surprise!  I was tempted to knock another star off for boredom, but I've changed my mind now!

I'm gonna stop reading for the day now and I'll hopefully carry on tomorrow.

Chapters 5 and 6 were, unfortunately, boring, so I'm skipping forward for a while in the hope of getting some less boring bits.  The third star is significantly wobbly already unfortunately.

OK, I've skipped ahead to chapter 9 and the chapters are too long again, unfortunately, so the third star is on the verge of dropping off unfortunately.

And now we've got celebrity names and internationally famous awards talked about, I'm assuming without permission, so the third star is plopping off unfortunately.  Only one star left before it becomes another DNF for me unfortunately.

I rapidly lost count of the number of pages in chapter 13 but it was waaaay too many and could have potentially made for a very late night if I hadn't skipped forward so many pages again.  I've officially given up on this book now so I'm taking the last star off and awarding it a disappointing DNF - I was really looking forward to reading it, but it's been a huge let down the more I've read.  If the author had carried on in the same way as they did at the start of the book, then I might've been willing to finish reading it without taking so many stars off and certainly no skipping forward as much as I have done today.  Overall, a huge disappointment.

Today's (20th May 2026) lunch photo

Just quickly, before I forget, is it OK to eat oily, wilted, very dark, raw baby spinach leaves please?  I'm sure it's fine, and it's too late now 'cos they are all in my belly, I'm just after a bit of reassurance is all.

Today's lunch was the last of last week's baby spinach leaves (which is what I'm asking about), 10 spring onions which were very onioney, unsurprisingly, 2 vegan cheese portions to finish up last week's pack and approx 15g of vegan mayonnaise, all washed down with a 330ml can of a Sparkling Mango pop.

My sinuses are clearer now, thanks to the onions now lol

Here's today's lunch photo:

The soya milk and, as a bonus, the oranges, have just been taken by a fantastic Olioer so I've now got time to have lunch and do my exercises this afternoon without keeping a close eye on the time any more.

I need a wee first, but then it's lunchtime for me!

Today (20th May 2026) I'm already grateful for...

...the people who bought my book in April!!!

I've just had an email from Amazon.com saying that I'm due a payment!!  I checked my account and there has been a purchase on 8th April and another one on 29th April - one was an ebook and the other a print book!  I've done absolutely no marketing and the only people who know about my first memoir are family, friends, readers of this blog and people I've emailed asking if they are up for reviewing my memoir, so I can only assume that it's the reviewers who have bought it!

I've got happy tears streaming down my cheeks right now!  😂

Today's (20th May 2026) breakfast photos

A purely liquid breakfast today because I'm running out of room in my fridge with the milk and 3 juices and I didn't see the point of opening a fresh box of Weetabix so I've advertised the soya milk on Olio and someone is coming to pick it up at 4.45pm today, so that's a relief.

Here are my two breakfast photos:

Mornin' all

I've woken up with a Visible Morning Stability Score of 4 out of 5 so I'm doing both sets of laps and exercises again today.  My blood pressure was at the high end of my own personal reference range, but still in it.  I've popped my 9 morning pills, got washed and changed, had my breakfast, washed up and advertised the soya milk on Olio so that it doesn't go to waste and started off the weekly virus scan.

I'm still feeling sore, but nowhere near as bad as it was, thankfully.

I need to clear the drain again before I do my next set of laundry... you watch me forget though lol

Time to get my breakfast photo up before I start the weekly backups, then my to-do list, then start off the backups while I'm doing my exercises now methinks, then I'll carry on reading and reviewing yesterday's book.

Someone is coming for the soya milk at 4.45pm today, so that's a relief and means that I can clear out my juices before I start the new box of Weetabix.

Today (19th May 2026) I'm grateful for...

...the very vocal and very close Eurasian Blackbird that's been singing to me since I woke up this morning and I think s/he sang me to sleep last night too!

That's me finished...

...reading for the day at the end of chapter 4 and the end of the chapter came out of the middle of nowhere!  No spoilers, but it'll be interesting to see how the author writes their way out of this... it's some excitement at last!
